Influence of rivet clamping stress on fatigue crack growth behaviour

چکیده

Steel structures built between 1850 and 1940 are mostly made of mild steel. Riveting was the dominating joining technique. Fatigue failure respectively fatigue safety is major concern if these cyclic loaded such as bridges hydraulic steel structures. Considering period operation almost hundred years, determination remaining life main aim assessment The clamping force rivets significantly influences crack propagation. Clamping stress caused by shrinkage hot driven while cooling down. corresponding friction at contact surfaces reduces notch rivet hole thus also driving force. In this paper, experiments for determining prestressing well riveted joints presented. For typical design details numerical models generated to determine stresses uncracked components intensity factors cracked components. Regarding growth rates, only few data have been published old steels so far. Thus, research program includes experimental investigation parameters.

Effect of Stress Ratio on the Fatigue Crack Growth Behaviour of C/C Composites

INTRODUCTION C/C composites have been used for aerospace application due to their excellent properties such as low density, high heat resistance in inert gas atmosphere, high specific strength and etc. Since C/C composites have relatively higher fracture resistance than other CMCs, this material can also be used as structural components with high reliability. The fatigue properties are also imp...

Hold-time effect on the thermo-mechanical fatigue crack growth behaviour of Inconel 718

In-phase TMF crack growth testing with different lengths of the hold time at the maximum temperature of 550C has been conducted on Inconel 718 specimens. Focus has been on establishing a method for TMF crack growth testing and investigating the effect of high temperature hold times on the TMF crack growth of the material. The tests are compared to isothermal crack propagation tests and show go...

Effect of Compressive Residual Stress on the Corner Crack Growth

In the present study, plasticity induced crack closure (PICC) concept and three dimensional (3D) finite element methods (FEM) are used to study the effect of compressive residual stress field on the fatigue crack growth from a hole. To investigate the effect of compressive residual stress on crack opening levels and crack shape evolution, Carlson’s experiments were simulated. Crack shape evolut...

Influence of Residual Stress Field on the Fatigue Crack Propagation in Prestressing Steel Wires

This paper deals with the effect of several residual stress profiles on the fatigue crack propagation in prestressing steel wires subjected to tension loading or bending moment. To this end, a computer program was developed to evaluate the crack front evolution on the basis of the Walker law. Results demonstrate that the absence of residual stresses makes the crack propagate towards a preferent...
